Vertical overlay

One overlay. Both shapes. Safe zones built in.

Add the same overlay link as a 1080×1920 browser source. It notices it is tall and lays every tool out for a phone, inside the platform’s safe area.

Nothing to rebuild and no second scene collection to maintain. Your 16:9 layout stays exactly as it is.

16:9 · 1920×1080

9:16

Same overlay link, same state — a key plays in both.

Kloot uses one overlay link for every shape. Added as a 1920×1080 source it is your normal 16:9 overlay; added as a 1080×1920 source it lays counters, tickers, lower thirds, alerts, polls and giveaways out for a phone, above the comment feed and clear of the buttons TikTok, Twitch and YouTube draw over vertical video. The panel shows both shapes side by side, and a key press plays in both.

How it works

The overlay reads the size of the browser source it is drawn in. Wider than tall is 16:9, taller than wide is 9:16, and nearly square gets the 9:16 layout at 16:9 sizes. Nothing to set up.

  • Same URL everywhere: a 1920×1080 browser source gets the 16:9 layout, a 1080×1920 one gets 9:16.
  • Each tool has a 9:16 rule: tickers and lower thirds sit above the bottom band, counters move clear of the comment corner, cards centre in the area people actually see.
  • Text scales up for small screens.

Safe zones for each platform

On a phone, TikTok, Twitch and YouTube draw their own buttons, names and chat over the top and bottom of vertical video. Kloot keeps your tools out of those bands. Pick the platform in the panel; two sliders adjust the bands if your layout differs.

  • TikTok: the comment feed and gift bar along the bottom, hearts and gifts up the right side.
  • Twitch: chat over the lower third of the video on mobile.
  • YouTube: comments and the Super Chat ticker at the bottom.
  • The bands are estimates — no platform publishes exact sizes — so they ship as editable defaults.

Where to add the 9:16 source

Anywhere you can add a browser source at 1080×1920. The overlay only looks at its own size, so the layout follows the source, not the app.

  • OBS or Streamlabs: a browser source sized 1080×1920 on a vertical canvas or in a portrait scene.
  • Twitch Dual Format, YouTube’s dual stream, TikTok LIVE Studio and Whatnot each send vertical video their own way. We’re testing each one end to end and will publish a step-by-step guide for each once it passes.

See both shapes before you go live

The panel’s True preview shows 16:9, 9:16 or both side by side — the real overlay, not a mock-up. A live dot on each shape tells you which sources are connected. Want a tool somewhere else on the phone? Quick Style has a 9:16 placement per tool.

Questions

No. Kloot uses one link for every shape. Add the same URL as a 1080×1920 source and it lays itself out for 9:16; your 16:9 source keeps its layout.

TikTok LIVE, Twitch on mobile and YouTube’s vertical feed each have their own estimated safe zones, plus a generic profile for anything else and a None option that uses the whole frame.

Yes. Each tool’s editor has an “In 9:16” section. “Same as 16:9” uses Kloot’s vertical layout; “Custom for 9:16” (Pro) lets you pick a spot and a size. You can also hide a tool in 9:16 only. Detection, the 9:16 layout, the side-by-side preview and the safe-zone shading are Free.

Dual Format takes its vertical feed from a second canvas in OBS, which Aitum Vertical or SE.Live adds. Kloot’s overlay lays itself out for any 1080×1920 browser source, so it is built for that canvas, but we haven’t finished testing Dual Format end to end. We’ll publish a setup guide once we have.
